An early morning shooting in Moorhead on Friday spilled over into Indianola and left at least two people injured.
Very few details have been released by law enforcement officials at this time; however, Moorhead Police Chief Fred Randle said his officer got a call at around 2:50 a.m., Friday morning and was told about a gunshot victim at South Sunflower County Hospital in Indianola.
Randle said upon arrival, his officers made contact with the victim who stated that he was outside of his residence in Moorhead talking to a woman when a vehicle drove up and someone started firing.
The unidentified victim reportedly stated that individuals in a white truck that was later identified as a rented 2020 Chevrolet Suburban, shot him in Moorhead, and his mother then drove him to the hospital in Indianola where the SUV soon arrived and fired at him again outside of the emergency room at the SSCH.
Sunflower County Sheriff James Haywood said his deputies pursued the SUV to a residence in the Herman Johnson Street and Broadmoor Drive area where the suspects fled the vehicle.
At some point during the incident more shots were fired and one of the suspects was injured and reportedly taken to a Jackson area hospital.
It is unclear at this time who fired the shots that injured the suspect or the nature of his or the victim's injury.
Indianola Police Investigator Sergeant Regina Simpson said they are still piecing together the events of the assault and the investigation is still in its preliminary stages.
Three persons were brought and booked into the Sunflower County Jail although as of this time no charges have been filed on either.
Haywood indicated that one other suspect is still at large.
"It's still fresh and everybody's trying to figure out what transpired," he said.
