On Friday, Moorhead Police Chief Bobby Walker officially announced that Investigator Sherry Myers would be his new assistant chief of police.
Myers, a Batesville native, is an 11-year law enforcement veteran who has served with various agencies across the Delta including the Greenville, Belzoni and Isola police departments.
In addition, she has served as a school resource officer with the Sunflower County Consolidated School District and as a campus police officer at Coahoma Community College. “I’m looking forward to working with the department to make Moorhead better,” Myers said.
She added, “I’m here to help serve and protect.”
Myers has only been with the Moorhead Police for about three months and was just elevated to the position of investigator a month ago. As for her newly appointed position, “I didn’t see this coming,” she said.
Myers said Chief Bobby Walker had promised to bring her along with him. “I am ready for the ride,” she said.
Walker said he had worked with Myers for five years when they were both on the Greenville force and was her supervisor at one point. Walker said Myers had a solid work performance, “And there’s no other person I would rather have as my assistant chief,” he said.
Walker called Myers a person he can trust. He said she would continue to be the investigator for the department as well as perform the day-to-day duties in his absence.
Walker presented Myers to the city officials at the June 13 council meeting and formally presented her on Friday during a pinning ceremony where her father had the honor of appending her insignia.
