As of Tuesday, five men were behind bars at the Sunflower County jail on drug-related charges.
A multi-jurisdictional task force made up of the Sunflower County Sheriff’s Department, the Indianola and Moorhead police departments and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics converged upon Sunflower County on Monday.
Officials arrested Randy Terrell Banks, 41, 1201 Johnny Russell Street, Moorhead and charged him with a controlled substance violation, the sale of a schedule-two narcotic—heroin and conspiracy to sell.
Also arrested was Hubert Lee Carpenter 65, 206 Cox Street. He was charged with controlled substance violation—sale of cocaine. Vendix Rondell Walker 35, 206 Birdsong Street was also charged on a controlled substance violation and three counts of sale of cocaine.
Charles Lee Fisher 64, 400 Curtis Street was charged with sale and possession of a controlled substance—schedule two narcotics. And Romeius Townsend 39, 1105 4th Avenue was charged with controlled substance violation, three counts of sale of methamphetamines.
Moorhead Police Chief Bobby Walker said on Wednesday that another person wanted by MBN, Derrick Robinson of Moorhead, turned himself in to officials and is being charged with the sale of narcotics.
Sheriff James Haywood said the objective of the raid was to put a curb on the drug trade in the county. Walker conveyed that more arrests are pending.
In a related issue, Walker said they are currently investigating a vehicle fire that happened on Monday night that they believe to be a retaliatory crime in conjunction with Monday’s drug-related arrests.
He said a vehicle parked at a home in the 500 block of Johnny Russell Drive was burned and the state fire marshal’s office is investigating it as arson, so anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Mississippi State Fire Marshal’s office or the Moorhead police department.
