Indianola physician Katherine Fokakis Patterson has been elected president of the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP).
Patterson was elected to the post at the group’s annual meeting in July, according to a release by the group.
Patterson, who has practiced with Indianola Family Medical Group since 2007, will lead the physician specialty organization, which is dedicated to advancing the specialty of family medicine and improving the health of all people in Mississippi, the group said.
MAFP provides education and support for family physicians and is an advocate for the specialized area of medicine.
The group also works to expand the physician workforce in the state.
A Hattiesburg native, Patterson received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi before attending the University of Mississippi School of Medicine.
She completed her residency and a women’s health fellowship at Corpus Chrsiti Family Practice Residency Program.
Patterson is married (David) with four sons, Samuel (10), Reilly (7), Nicholas (6) and John Kastens (2). They attend First United Methodist Church.
