The coaching staff and athletic department at Gentry High School hosted a signing party for some of its graduating seniors on Friday and seven athletic standouts put pen and ink to paper as they announced where they would be carrying out the next phase of their athletic and academic careers.

Coach Chico Potts said he is tremendously proud of all of his players.

Shooting guard Shamarvious Hodges pledged to go to Meridian Community College, as did small forward Robert Bell. Davius Clark, who played as a small forward/off guard is headed to Holmes Community College and in football, safety/linebacker Markevious Frazier will hit the line for Mississippi Delta Community College.

In addition to them, Coach Sarita Cooper-White has three Lady Rams headed to the junior college arena. Shooting guard Nyah Davis committed to Hinds Community College and she will be joined by teammate Mercedes Hayes, a Gentry small forward. And power forward Belize Reed announced her intent to make Meridian Community College her home court.

The group was all smiles with a few intermittent tears as family, friends, coaches and teammates looked on with joy and excitement. District athletic director, Earnest Nelson told the signees’ remaining teammates that Friday’s event was an example of what could happen if they worked hard and honed their talents.
