The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Sunflower County has risen to seven, and one death related to the virus has been confirmed.
The E-T first reported on Friday that a 75-year-old passed away early that morning, and that death has been linked to the novel coronavirus.
Sunflower County Coroner Heather Burton confirmed the passing of the individual, whom she said had a pre-existing underlying health condition, but no other details were offered, except the Mississippi State Department of Health had been notified, and the agency was reaching out to the family about self-quarantining.
MSDH released its daily data on confirmed coronavirus cases on Saturday morning, confirming active cases in Sunflower County had risen from five to seven overnight, and the data do reflect one death recorded in Sunflower County.
The number of cases statewide rose from 579 to 663, and deaths across Mississippi rose from eight to 13 from Friday to Saturday.
