Outgoing Indianola Rotary Club President Grant Phillips passed the gavel of leadership to Second Vice-President Rob Taylor during the Tuesday gathering of Rotarians at Newman Hall.
Phillips thanked the group for their support and acknowledged that it has been a learning experience for him.
“I feel like I have gotten to know each of you better, as a new person in the club, a new person to Indianola that’s been really huge,” he said.
As he reflected on his experiences over the past year and a half, calling it “a transitional time for our club,” he remarked that the two prior presidents and the two that were to succeed him had all left town.
That expression was accompanied by a boisterous round of laughter that exploded across the room as someone quipped, “maybe it’s you.”
Phillips called for their continued support of the new administration, but assured them that he was not leaving town or changing clubs.
Also at Tuesday’s gathering, members Chris Makamson and Jamie Murrell of Planters Bank, Mitchell Hill of Community Bank and Scott Mitchell of Westchester Agriculture Asset Management were honored as the newest Paul Harris Fellows.
They were presented with a lapel pin and certificate.
The fellowship was established in honor of Paul Harris, founder, Rotary International, to express appreciation to those who contribute $1,000 to the humanitarian and educational programs of the Rotary Foundation.
