Santa allowed four and sometimes six of his Elves to travel to 103 Forrest Place, Moorhead., the historic home of the founder of Moorhead, Chester Pond, to work eight hour shifts for six weeks to transform the four acres into a Winter Wonderland.
Proprietor Gail Oswalt is ecstatic that under the direction and creativity of Jimmy Lloyd the entire yard is covered with breathtaking groupings of vibrant lights in various forms.
This is the eleventh year that Lloyd and borrowed Elves have worked their magic to precisely place over 200,000 plus LED lights as a gift of love for all to enjoy during the Christmas season.
To underscore the reason for the display, large new lighted signs spell out Merry Christmas and Noel along with three large crosses outlined with white lights in addition to a brilliant white Star of Bethlehem which is symbolic of the star that guided the Wise Men to the Christ child.
Thousands of LED white lights wrap the branches and trunks of many live trees. Other live trees are wrapped solid with red or green lights.
Some trees are wrapped solid with pink lights to bring awareness to breast cancer. Make sure you look for the large live tree which has blue falling star lights in the top of the tree with white falling star lights lower on the tree. These starbursts resemble long icicles.
There is also a tree with the same falling star lights which are multicolored. White lights are used to outline the runway near the eight metal agricultural planes which are outlined with white lights and suspended above the runway in various heights to prevent the planes from coming in contact with each other.
The runway is long enough that Santa can safely land his sleigh. In memory of the 15 Marines and the 1 Navy Corpsman aboard the Yanky72 plane which crashed near Moorhead in July, 2017, two metal fighter jets wrapped with white and blue lights are flying past a solid wall of purple lights. The runway for the jets is outlined with green lights.
Fabricated trees of various heights and colors are strategically placed throughout the yard. Twenty are six feet tall. Thirty-five are ten feet tall, and five are twenty feet tall. These trees are solid white, blue, green, red, and some have multicolor lights. The tallest tree is forty feet with brilliant green lights.
