A young Indianola woman was pronounced dead at the scene after gunfire erupted just before sunset on Friday near the intersection of Garrard Avenue and Curtis Street in Indianola.
Police have identified the victim as 24-year-old Alberta Garner.
Garner is the second young woman to be gunned down in Indianola since March.
In the early morning hours of March 1, 23-year-old Beatrice Williams was shot during a Main Street shootout. She was an innocent bystander.
There were few details available at the time of publication regarding Friday night’s shooting, but Indianola Police Chief Edrick Hall said police have one suspect in custody and they are looking for a second person.
He declined to identify the suspect at this time but would only say that it was a female.
Also, he indicated that a second person was likely injured, but he does not know the nature of the injury and has no details on that yet.
He said witnesses reported they saw a vehicle fleeing from the scene and they are now searching for that vehicle.
Hall also said that they will be reviewing the video footage from the area to try to get a better understanding of what actually happened.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Indianola police at 662-887-1811.
