With both Gentry High School basketball teams owning a 3-1 record, they are now preparing to play the host in the upcoming Gentry High Thanksgiving Classic tournament.
Set to be played this Friday and Saturday, Gentry High will welcome teams from Greenville High, Palmer of Marks, Horn Lake High School, Ruleville Central High School and Memphis Business Academy.
With games scheduled to be played consistently from 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each day, the Lady Rams will open their participation in the tournament at 7 p.m. Friday against Horn Lake High while Saturday will find them back on their court at 7 p.m. Saturday to take on Ruleville Central High.
While the Rams will take on those same teams each day, their tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
In their most recent action played last Friday at Callaway High in Jackson, the Lady Rams earned a 58-39 victory while the Rams dropped their first game of the season by an 85-70 margin.
In girls’ play, the Lady Rams broke open a 32-28 halftime lead with a strong 16-6 third period scoring surge.
The game featured a huge performance from Mercedes Hayes, who’s double double included 24 points and 27 rebounds.
Also reaching double digit scoring in the game was Nihya Davis, who contributed 10 points to the Gentry High side of the scoreboard.
In boys’ action, the Rams opened the game with a sluggish start which found them down by a 23-9 score after one period of play.
However, the Rams regrouped in the second quarter to outscore Callaway High 24-21 to cut their deficit to a 44-33 margin.
Unfortunately, that first period would come back to haunt the Rams as the Chargers moved on to their 15 points victory.
Leading the scoring for the Rams in this game was Cartisco Brown with his 25 point game while Darrius Clark added 14 points to the Gentry High effort.
