After securing a basketball victory apiece prior to Thanksgiving, the Gentry High Rams and Lady Rams have plenty of action on the horizon.
Although the Rams took a 4-1 record into their Tuesday road trip to Memphis to take on Douglas High School, both Gentry squads will return to their home court this Saturday.
Hosting the Kirk E. Price Memorial Thanksgiving Classic, the 2-3 Lady Rams will initially take the court at 6 p.m. versus Leland High School.
Although their Tuesday road trip game’s results were unavailable at press-time, the Rams tournament play on their home court will occur at 7:30 p.m., also against the Leland High Cubs.
Future action has both Gentry squads travelling next Tuesday to Grenada High School to battle the Chargers in some non-regional action. Tipoff for the girls’ game is set for 6 p.m.
In their only other competition played this past Friday, a pair of hard-fought road victories over Thomas E. Edwards High in Ruleville were earned by both Gentry High squads.
On the strength of a third quarter rally, the Lady Rams earned a 51-47 decision over the Lady Tigers.
Down by a narrow 20-19 margin at halftime, the Lady Rams used a 20-6 third period run to take a 13 point lead into the final quarter of the game.
However, the Lady Tigers, stormed back with a strong 21-12 scoring flurry in that period; a strong rally which came up short in erasing the Lady Rams’ lead.
Leading the scoring for Gentry High was Darlicia Coleman, whose double double included 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Following close behind was Shacori Dawson with 15 points while Jada Delaney just missed double digit scoring with her nine point performance.
In boys’ action, the Rams came home with an exciting 53-50 decision over the Thomas E. Edwards High squad.
With both teams seemingly trading point for point, the Rams and Tigers battled to a 44-44 tie after three quarters of play.
However, the Gentry squad used a 9-6 scoring advantage in the fourth period to seal the game.
Pacing the Rams balanced scoring attack was Makelvi Hutchins as the junior dropped 11 points through the basket.
Also adding eight points apiece to the scoreboard for the Rams were Clint Ferguson, Jesse Hull, and Orlando Liddell, Jr.
