Opening their 2018 baseball season with two wins in three outings, the Indianola Academy Colonels will now not return to diamond action again until next Tuesday evening.
With a 6 p.m. road match-up against Pillow Academy in Greenwood next up on their schedule, the Colonels will attempt to pick up another non-district win against the always tough Mustangs.
This past week’s play saw the IA squad defeat Greenville Christian School by a 17-0 score Tuesday night while earning a 13-8 victory over Manchester Academy in Yazoo City one night earlier.
In their most recent win over Greenville Christian School, the Colonels sent 18 batters to the plate in the first inning; an effort which scored 14 runs to put the four inning game out of reach early.
On the mound starter Reed Junkin, Sebastian Harris, and Thomas Putnam combined to no-hit the visiting Saints. Junkin picked up the win following his two innings of work which yielded four strikeouts.
At the plate James Hill slapped a pair of singles while Will Davis, Logan White, and Stefon Smith all drilled doubles to help lead IA’s 14 hit attack.
In their season-opener in Columbus last Thursday, the Colonels dropped a 4-0 error-plagued decision to Heritage Academy.
In this contest pitchers ruled the night as a sixth inning Logan White single was all the IA hitters could muster in this contest.
However, the Heritage Patriots did not fare much better against the pitching of Josh Hill, Junkin, and Davis as the trio combined to give up only two hits while striking out eight batters.
