Postseason play has all but arrived for the Indianola Academy Lady Colonels basketball team.
With one final regular season game to play, the 9-14, 3-5 Lady Colonels will participate in the District 2-3A Tournament which is scheduled to begin Wednesday, February 5 at Carroll Academy.
Game times and seeding for this tournament are to be announced.
Following a week’s play in which the IA squad claimed one victory in four attempts, the Lady Colonels will wrap up their regular season schedule Monday when they travel to Canton Academy for a 6 p.m. non-district contest.
In their most recent action Tuesday night, the Lady Colonels traveled to Oak Hill Academy in West Point and earned a 45-34 District 2-3A decision over the Lady Raiders.
Meanwhile, Monday night garnered the IA girls a non-district 46-42 loss to Manchester Academy of Yazoo City on the IA gym floor.
While this game’s first half ended in a 23 point deadlock, this situation changed in the second half after the Lady Mavericks were able to outscore the IA squad 23-19 and claim the game.
Leading the scoring for IA was Jill Roberts and Lizzy Smith, with both players dropping 10 points apiece through the basket.
Just missing double digit scoring was Avery Daniels as the senior posted nine points on the scoreboard.
Other action this past week included a pair of district losses beginning with last Friday’s narrow 31-30 home-court loss to Carroll Academy.
This decision came on the heels of last Thursday’s 56-39 road loss to Central Holmes Christian School in Lexington.
Against Carroll Academy, Smith led IA’s scoring with a nine point game while Mattie Beth Williamson’s 12 point performance paced the Lady Colonels’ scoring versus Central Holmes Christian School.
