A successful week of baseball, highlighted by a no-hit pitching performance from Will Davis, has most recently been had by the Indianola Academy Colonels.
In their only action played last Wednesday, the 11-3-1, 6-0 Colonels also used hot bats to help sweep the District 1AAA doubleheader (8-0, 16-6), and the three-game series, from North Delta School of Batesville.
Facing only one batter over the minimum during his seven innings of work, the hometown crowd saw Davis strikeout six batters while issuing one final inning, base on balls.
Meanwhile, the Colonels’ bats hammered 25 hits to help drive in the 24 total runs during the evening’s play against the visiting Green Wave.
In the opening game, the Colonels would score all the runs they needed to claim the game in the second inning; a five run scoring spree which saw Davis aid his own near-perfect pitching performance with a three run homer over the left field wall.
Davis’ blow occurred with IA already owning a 2-0 lead due to James Hill delivering a two-run double to the left-center field gap.
Also contributing a pair of singles in this contest while at the plate were Thomas Putnam (2 RBIs) and Spencer Roberson.
In the nightcap, the Colonels would score in all but the fourth frame to accumulate their high point total.
It would be a five run fifth inning which broke the game open for the IA squad as they used five hits to help plate the runners.
The Colonels opened the game in fine fashion as the Green Wave’s first pitch of the evening resulted in a double by Davis; this shot to the gap was then followed five pitches later by a Josh Hill home run beyond the left-center field wall.
Josh Hill led the hitting attack for IA as his home run was followed by a pair of singles, all of which drove a total of five runs across the plate.
Davis would complete his day’s work in the batter’s box with two doubles and a single while Wesley Lester’s double and single contributed four RBIs.
Roberson was also very effective at the plate as he drilled a double and a triple while Putnam added two more singles which drove another pair of runners in to score.
On the mound, starter Reed Junkin went 3 1/3 innings while James Hill earned the save with his 2 2/3 innings of work.
Hill would surrender three of the eight hits earned by the Green Wave while striking out four and walking none.
