Your hometown kids are doing well.
However this Friday night presents the final opportunity for one to see the Indianola Academy Colonels football team play live on Legion Field this season.
The stakes are not much higher as a win in this game will grant the Colonels the opportunity to advance on to their fourth consecutive AAA state championship game.
Commencing with the 7 p.m. kickoff, the 11-1 Indianola Academy Colonels will play host to a 10-1 Central Hinds Academy squad from Raymond.
This huge game promises to be very physical as it will feature a pair of teams which play much of their style of football in the trenches.
Perhaps the significance of this game is never larger than to those 10 seniors who will set foot onto the Legion Field turf for their final time this Friday night.
This is a high-achieving group of seniors which has yet to lose a varsity football game on their home field; while also to date helping IA accumulate a 38-2 record in their three year varsity stint.
Not to mention the 47 game home-field win streak they have helped sustain.
On both sides of the football, these seniors contribute heavily to a pure and physical brand of football.
Such was the case in IA’s 16-13 slugfest win over Bayou Academy of Cleveland.
The Colts brought their best team in years into last Friday’s second round playoff game and a large and loud crowd of visiting fans followed them to Legion Field. That same visiting fan support can be expected to arrive this week when Central Hinds Academy comes to town.
As a result, the atmosphere at Legion Field will again become a special place for fans to be on Friday night – especially when adding in the noise generated on IA’s sidelines by fans, cheerleaders, and Bill Alford’s music.
However, the primary payoff for the fans in attendance is watching these hometown kids, led by those 10 seniors, do what they do with extreme effort.
And it is fun to watch.
