Momentum is a powerful item to take into a big game.
Or into a string of big games.
Such is the case for the 12-9, 3-2 Gentry High Lady Rams as they move from claiming three consecutive victories into a three game run of Region 3-4A contests.
During this past week’s play, the Lady Rams completed their recent string of victories on their own court with Tuesday night’s 51-18 regional domination of Rosa Fort High from Tunica.
This victory was preceded by last Saturday’s 54-49 non-regional victory over Humphreys County High of Belzoni and last Thursday’s 49-35 road win over Amanda Elzy in Greenwood.
As for their upcoming competition, the Lady Rams will be back on their home-court again Friday when they take on Greenwood High School.
This first of a pair of 6 p.m. regional games will be followed next Tuesday with a trip to Yazoo City High School.
In their recent game against Rosa Fort High, the Lady Rams exploded to a 32-7 halftime lead and then cruised on to their lopsided victory.
Amber Curtis led all scorers with her 12 point game while Taniyah Williams was close behind after depositing 11 points through the basket.
Meanwhile, last Saturday, the Lady Rams trailed 37-27 after three quarters of play before taking over the game in the final stanza.
Outscoring the Cowgirls 27-12 in that fourth period, the Lady Rams gave the crowd something to cheer about while earning the come-from-behind victory.
Leading the scoring for Gentry High in this game was sophomore Curtis with 19 points.
Adding 11 points apiece to the Lady Rams point total were Darlencia Coleman, Shacori Dawson, and Jaidra Green.
In other play this past Thursday, the Lady Rams earned their five point road win over Amanda Elzy High in Greenwood.
Pacing the scoring for the Lady Rams in this night’s play was Williams, as the freshman posted 15 points on the scoreboard.
Also reaching double digits was Dawson with 11 points while Coleman pulled down 10 rebounds in this game.
