It is on to round two of the State 4A basketball playoffs for the Gentry High Rams.
Owning a 24-7 record following their Tuesday night 100-62 home-court victory over Kosciusko High School, the Rams must now make a long Saturday trip to Ripley High School.
This Saturday’s 7 p.m. game in the far reaches of Northeast Mississippi promises to be a huge test for Gentry Head Coach Chico Potts’ squad, which finished as the Region 3, number two seed.
A 57-32 winner over Itawamba AHS of Fulton Tuesday night, the Region 1 champion Ripley Tigers bring a 26-3 record into this upcoming 7 p.m. game.
Should the Rams claim this Saturday’s game over Ripley High, they will move on to next Tuesday’s quarterfinal portion of the playoffs.
Once reaching this point of the playoffs, a game which has a trip to the Mississippi Coliseum hanging in the balance, the Rams would be participating in a 7 p.m. battle against either Pontotoc High School or Clarksdale High School.
A Pontotoc High victory this Saturday will put the Rams back on the road while a Clarksdale victory will bring the Gentry High squad back to its home court next Tuesday night.
In their most recent victory over Kosciusko High School, the Whippets had no answer for the Rams as four Gentry players reached double figure scoring; an effort which helped the Rams reach the century mark in scoring.
While Shamarvious Hodges led this group with a strong 28 point game, Robert Bell’s outing posted 17 points on the scoreboard.
Also showing up big by recording a double double in this postseason game was Darrius Clark, who completed his night’s play with a dozen points and 10 rebounds.
Rounding out the top scorers for Gentry High in this game with 11 points was David Windfield.
