With the opening game of the 2018 Indianola Academy girls’ soccer season now just four days away, the unexpected has occurred requiring Indianola’s first family of soccer to respond.
This recent development came into play following highly successful IA Head Coach Ron Schlatter’s recent heart attack.
Schlatter served as girls and boys soccer coach last year for IA.
Coach Schlatter has accumulated an impressive record at IA having won a dozen district championships and two state championships.
However, the team will be in good hands as Coach Schlatter’s daughter, Hannah Farmer, is stepping into the breach to guide the defending Division III District 1 champion Lady Colonels.
Opening their 13 game schedule at 3 p.m. next Monday at Washington School in Greenville, Coach Farmer will make her head-coaching debut hoping to improve on last season’s solid 10-4 IA campaign.
An interesting family match-up will also occur September 5 when the IA squad will take on district foe Bayou Academy of Cleveland; a date which will pit Coach Farmer against brother Matthew Schlatter, who is serving as the Head Coach of the Lady Colts.
