Ruleville’s Golden Heritage Adult Daycare Personal & Respite Care Services proudly celebrated Older Americans Month during the week of May 12-16.
This special week was dedicated to honoring the invaluable contributions and achievements of older Americans in Sunflower and Bolivar counties.
Led by the Administration for Community Living (ACL) and established in 1963, Older Americans Month (OAM) is celebrated every May. This year’s theme, “Flip the Script on Aging,” aimed to transform societal perceptions, conversations, and approaches to aging. It encouraged individuals and communities to challenge stereotypes and dispel misconceptions about aging.
Golden Heritage designated May 12-16 to showcase and pay homage to pioneers in Sunflower and Bolivar counties.
Monday, May 12th, began the week-long festivities with a kickoff and public hearing in partnership with Sunflower-Humphreys Counties Progress, Inc. Special guests were: Representative Otis Anthony, Supervisor Gloria Dickerson, and Ruleville Mayor Michael Clark. The event featured entertainment by musician Michael Dennis and comedian Sister Lucille, setting a lively tone for the week.
On Tuesday, SHCPI blessed all Golden Heritage daycare clients with a $50 grocery voucher to Turner’s Market in Indianola. After the shopping spree, they enjoyed a delightful lunch at Burger King, making the day both productive and enjoyable.
Wednesday’s activities were sponsored by Harlow’s Casino Executive Director Roscoe Greene, who organized an afternoon of fun and lunch in Greenville. The outing afforded Golden Heritage’s clients a wonderful opportunity for socializing and relaxation.
The final celebration took place at Ruleville’s Community House, where Mr. John Allen and Ms. Pamela Johnson, both of Drew, were crowned this year’s King and Queen. This event marked a joyous conclusion to the week, highlighting the community’s appreciation for its older members.
This celebration was made possible through the support and partnership of Golden Heritage’s neighbors, friends, family, and especially their corporate/community partners and sponsors.
