“Use enough dynamite there, Butch?” – The Sundance Kid.
This is one of my most favorite movie lines and pieces of video to send to friends at different times in their social media life. With money flying all over, a train car blown to smithereens and a little humor thrown in, the 1969 classic movie is one for the ages.
I didn’t like the ending but hey, when you traverse the wrong side of the law, it seems to catch up with you before too long. But why hasn’t the classic ever been remade?
I’ve often thought out loud that George Clooney and Brad Pitt would be the logical duo to recomplete the epic movie. Strother Martin and his “morons, I’ve got morons on my team” and tobacco spitting “bingo” lines are classic as well. As a public address announcer, I love cutting the moron phrase in when the opposing baseball team comes to the mound along with their pitching coach or manager to talk about or make a change. If no one else is amused, I certainly am.
I reckon some classics shouldn’t be touched. I’ve only seen one remake of a John Wayne classic, Rooster Cogburn. Jeff Bridges did a fine job and told a little different story supposedly following the book more so than the first one did.
He even wore his eye patch on the opposite eye than the Duke chose to wear his. But no one has dared to try and put their spin on any other John Wayne classics – that I’m currently aware of.
Are there any new stories to tell on the big screen? With so many streaming services, I rarely get to the “picture show” for a first release.
And COVID put a damper on most of that for quite some time. I did see the Elvis biography but had to sit in the second row. It was loud and the king was oversized even in his younger years up that close but I thought the movie was incredible.
Then along came Top Gun 2. Loved seeing that in the picture show and the twists and turns in the second story were well entertaining.
My dream is to write a complete screenplay one of these days. I reckon I better make it a more specific day and get on it so I can say I did it. But are there any real stories left to tell? I’m always looking.
Perhaps I should go hang out with Redigo Phillips, drink some coffee and get some ideas flowing. Not sure they’d make the big screen but they’d be a hit at the dove hunt or fishing boat and possibly deer camp.
Wait, I think Jeff Daniels may have already done that one. Time to one up him, I reckon. Then get him to star in it! There yah go. Alrighty then. Time to tell some stories on paper for the big screen.
