A Freedom Trail marker for the late Dr. Clinton Battle will be unveiled on Church Street in Indianola on September 11.
The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at Mount Beulah M.B. Church on Church Street. A reception will follow at Club Ebony at 12:30.
The City of Indianola agreed on Monday night to close Clay, Church and Mill streets for the event.
Battle was not only a well-known physician in Indianola in the late 1940s and 1950s, he also worked to revive the local NAACP chapter during the early parts of the Civil Rights movement.
Battle also became known in the medical field as having delivered the first set of Siamese twins to be successfully separated. The twins, Lillian and Linda Matthews, were delivered in Indianola and were later surgically separated.
