Voters heading to the polls for Indianola’s primary on Tuesday are encouraged to vote where they live.
Sunflower County Circuit Clerk Carolyn Hamilton told The Enterprise-Tocsin this week that Indianola voters should be aware that polling places in the municipal election may be different from polling places in the county election.
“If you are currently a registered voter and live outside the city limits, you will not be eligible to vote on October 14,” Hamilton said. “Registered voters who have moved within the city during the past four years may have changed precincts.”
Hamilton said that if a voter appears at a polling place and their name is not on the poll book, they may be issued an affidavit ballot.
“Voters must state where they live, and if the address puts them at another precinct, they will be given a Suggestion Form with instructions to the poll managers to allow the voter to vote at that precinct by affidavit,” she said, adding that if a voter insists on voting at the precinct they have arrived at, and it does not matche their given address, the poll manager will allow them to vote affidavit.
“The basic rule of a registered voter is ‘You must vote where you live,’” Hamilton said. “When a voter insists on voting affidavit at the wrong precinct, there is s strong risk that their vote may not count.
