My father-in-law worked for the telephone company for 42 years. He was a line foreman and would oversee the telephone poles being put in the ground and the wires that ran across those poles. He trained many men who moved up with the company; however, he stayed in his position because he only had a seventh-grade education and at that time, more education was being required for upper management.
He was a very smart individual, and his work ethic was second to none. Starting his job in the early 1930’s he called it quits in 1972. He and I would ride down the road and he would share with me about the landline telephone poles he set and that one day they would not be needed.
One of the men he trained came to him in 1959 and told him, “One day all of the poles and wires will be gone, and we will be talking on a wireless phone that we can hold in our hand and walk around with.” Of course, this came true many years later when the cell phone was invented.
Today we would be lost without our cell phone. We depend on them so much that the younger generation will only read about the hard labor that went into making landlines work. They understand the telephones that we have now and can do many things with them. Many believe that this was the beginning of wireless communication; however, that would be a wrong assumption.
The prophet spoke about the Lord in Jeremiah 33:3, “Call to me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”
Think about when you talk to the Lord through prayer. Is this not wireless communication? God gave us the opportunity to speak to Him anytime we desire, and it has been this way since the beginning of mankind. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you have done in your lifetime He will listen to you and will respond through His written Word, the Bible. He is a good and gracious God who loves you so much that He sent His Son to the cross to be crucified for the sins we commit. He wants all of us to live with Him in Heaven when our time on earth is over. He also gives us the opportunity to decide if we want to accept Him as our Savior and live with Him or reject Him and live with Satan in Hades.
Talk to the Lord today through prayer, the most favored wireless communication, and ask Him to come into your heart.
My father-in-law was a tough man to work for, but he was a fair man. He helped many people throughout his lifetime and never asked for anything in return. He also knew the Lord and was never ashamed to tell anyone about the ‘ole Master’ and lives with Him today.
