The big news is Indianola Academy Homecoming will be celebrated tonight on Legion Field.
However, by the end of the night, the IA Colonels football team is also hoping to be celebrating a District 2-2A victory over the visiting Rebels of Carroll Academy.
With the game kicking off at 7 p.m., the 2-5, 0-1 Colonels will compete against a Carroll Academy squad which owns a 3-4 record.
Both teams are looking for a return to the win column after suffering losses in last Friday’s contests.
While the Colonels dropped a 35-16 road decision to district foe Greenville St. Joseph High School (2-4, 1-0) last week, the Rebels fell by a 42-6 margin to now 5-2 Winona Christian School.
Tonight’s district contest against Carroll Academy will find the Colonels hoping to end a two-game losing streak.
Meanwhile, the IA squad will also be facing a Rebels squad experiencing its own losing skid. Last week’s loss to Winona Christian School was the Carroll Academy squad’s third consecutive loss.
It appears the Rebels have been suffering offensive woes as their last three games have produced only four total touchdowns.
As for their four common opponents played thus far, both IA and Carroll Academy experienced the same results by very similar scores.
While both teams defeated Manchester Academy of Yazoo City, losses were absorbed to Lee Academy of Clarksdale, Oak Hill Academy of West Point, and Winona Christian School.
Last year, Carroll Academy struggled through a 1-9 record, a season that did not include playing Indianola Academy.
While IA has not played Carroll Academy since the 2022 season, the Colonels do own a 16-5 series advantage over the Rebels.
In their loss to Greenville St. Joe High last Friday night, big plays by the Fighting Irish enabled them to go into the second quarter with a 28-0 lead over the Colonels.
The IA offense did find success in the second and third quarters, however.
A 51-yard scoring pass from sophomore quarterback Patrick Davis to senior Graham Howard sent the Colonels to the dressing room at halftime down by a 35-7 margin.
In the third period, the duo teamed up again for another scoring pass.
On this occasion, the play covered 16 yards to conclude the IA scoring on the night.
Offensively, Davis completed seven of his 20 passes for 147 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Howard’s four reception for 114 yards and the two touchdowns paced the IA receiving corps.
Levi Williamson also pulled in two passes for 14 yards while sophomore Reilly Patterson’s one reception picked up 19 yards.
On the ground, freshman Luke Miller’s seven carries netted 58 yards to lead the IA rushing attack.
Defensively, Graham Howard led the IA resistance with his six tackles while also recovering a St. Joe fumble.
Senior Matthew Gary was also active by completing his night’s play with five tackles.
