Good Mornin’! Good Mornin’!
Sunday is that day. Valentine’s Day.
Everything’s all red and lovey dovey with hearts all over the place. It’s always a lot of pressure, especially if your wallet is a few weeks from payday.
What are the best ways to be creative and not end up in the dog house?
Don’t you wish it was still as simple as that brown paper bag you decorated and taped at your desk at school and everybody just walked around and stuffed their pre-made Valentine’s Day cards in? And maybe someone special would slip in some candy or a doo dad that made you feel extra special.
Well, we can’t go back to Mrs. Woods first grade at CDA as hard as we try. The Baptists tore down the building, so we’d be sitting on dirt anyway.
Is there something that just says I love you, won’t you be my Valentine, you know, like a new fishing pole.
Or perhaps some new camo or even a paper sack full of ammo?
How bout a new pack of Slater’s Jigs?
I reckon I get a bit more like my dad every year. I can buy myself candy or go eat somewhere just about any time but ammo is hard to find, so yeah, that would definitely say, I love you!
A fishing trip would put a smile on my face as would a slow ride down old Sunflower County gravel roads that once held mystery and challenges. But at Better Homes and Gardens, they list a bunch of DIY ideas. How about this? “Give your guy the gift of grilling this Valentine's Day. He'll love the rugged look of the leather-wrapped handles.
To make this easy Valentine's Day gift for him, start with an inexpensive set of utensils and use leather cording to dress them up.”
Alrighty. I reckon some leather encrusted tools would be fun to have. I don’t think I have any old leather laying around though. Next!
How about this, Rope Love Art. Yep, go find a rope and follow these instructions: “Express your love for your special someone with a sweet sentiment made from rope.
To make, douse thick natural fiber rope in a mix of 1-1/2 cups warm water, 1 cup flour, 1 cup cornstarch, 1 cup crafts glue, and 1 teaspoon salt.
Shape the rope into a word and a frame, laying the design on a piece of plastic wrap. Use light-gauge wire to add stability and to form tight letter shapes. The letters should harden within 24 hours.
When dry, tack the lettering on the wall, attaching decorative birds or other embellishments as desired.
Editor's Tip: Write your word on the plastic wrap using a permanent marker first as a guide for the design.”
Y’all let me know how these work out for you now. Especially, the rope art. Just how do you spell check a rope though?
Make it a fun day, dig in your wallet for creativity and spend a few bucks on flowers and candy if you’re not handy with the DIY stuff. Does anybody have a decorative bird or two they can spare?
Happy Valentine’s Day, everybody!
