The 2021 school sports alignments are becoming public and all four Sunflower County Schools will see new opponents gracing their schedules.
Although the public school football schedules have not yet been released, the Gentry High Rams will be gaining a new foe within Region 3-4A competition.
For it will be the Senatobia High Warriors who will compete with Gentry High, Clarksdale High, Greenwood High, and Yazoo City High for the 2021 regional crown.
As for the Thomas Edwards High Tigers in Ruleville, the new Region 3-3A opponent will be Yazoo County High.
Dropped from the Tigers’ regional competition is Coahoma AHS of Clarksdale.
Other regional opponents remain to be Amanda Elzy High of Greenwood, Humphreys County of Belzoni, and Winona High.
Meanwhile, the Indianola Academy Colonels are being moved from 3A up to 4A classification for the coming season
Serving as the Colonels’ District 2-4A competition will be Carroll Academy, Greenville St. Joseph High, and Winston Academy of Louisville. The Colonels did not play St. Joe or Winston this past season. Adding interest is the new lineup of six new opponents who have dates with the Colonels on the 2021 schedule; and two of these teams are all-new IA opponents.
The Colonels will open their season with a never-before-played opponent in the form of Tri-County Academy of Flora.
Another all-new opponent next season will be Delta Streets Academy of Greenwood. The Lions are entering their first season playing 11-man football after years of eight man football competition.
Two other teams owning a history of competing against IA football teams have returned to IA’s upcoming season’s schedule.
They include Kirk Academy of Grenada and Washington School of Greenville.
Rounding out the IA schedule for 2021 are Lee Academy of Clarksdale, North Delta School of Batesville, and Central Holmes Christian School of Lexington; all of whom played IA during last season’s 7-5 campaign.
Previous opponents dropped from the 2021 slate are Bayou Academy of Cleveland, Benton Academy, Canton Academy, Greenville Christian School, Pillow Academy of Greenwood, and Winona Christian School.
Meanwhile, the North Sunflower Academy Rebels will be playing in a new eight-man district after being moved from District 1A1 to 2A1 classification.
Although the only new opponent the Rebels will face this fall is Columbus Christian School, district competition will come from Calhoun Academy, DeSoto Academy of Helena, AR, and Deer Creek School of Arcola.
