Riding a three-game win streak, the Indianola Academy Colonels baseball team will see a return to District 1-2A competition next Tuesday.
Currently playing hot baseball, the Colonels extended their winning streak this past week with a pair of exciting one-run victories.
Following last Monday’s 7-6 victory over visiting Carroll Academy, one day later the Colonels earned a 6-5 road decision over Starkville Christian School.
As for their upcoming play, next Monday will find the Colonels taking their 5-8, 1-0 record to Carroll Academy in Carrollton for a non-district date with the Rebels.
First pitch of this game is scheduled to be thrown at 6 p.m.
The Colonels’ District 1-2A competition then occurs next Tuesday when they welcome Delta Academy of Marks to the IA field for a doubleheader.
The first game of this twin bill with the Raiders is set to begin at 4 p.m.
The Colonels and the Raiders will then conclude their three-game district series next Thursday.
On that day the IA and Delta Academy squads will meet for a 7 p.m. match-up.
In this past week’s action, the Colonels’ recent success included Monday’s 7-6 extra-inning victory over visiting Carroll Academy.
In a game which found itself deadlocked at six runs apiece by the end of the sixth inning, the Colonels struck the final blow in their half of the eighth frame.
Scoring the winning run was Ty Killebrew. The junior crossed the plate following Easton Lloyd’s fielder’s choice ground ball which was thrown wide to first base.
The Colonels accumulated 10 hits in this contest with Patrick Davis, Killebrew, and Levi Williamson leading the offense. The trio drilled a double and a single apiece against the Rebels’ pitchers.
On the mound, Killebrew earned the win as his five innings of relief work yielded five hits while striking out seven Rebels and walking two more.
Starting pitcher Easton Lloyd toiled for three innings, allowing six hits while fanning two batters and walking one.
Meanwhile, in their play this past Tuesday at Starkville Christian School, the Colonels struck for a dozen hits off the Cougars’ pitching staff.
However, seven of those hits were recorded by only two IA batters.
While Davis drilled four singles in the game, Williamson added another three one-baggers to lead IA’s hitting attack.
On the mound Blayne Fleming picked up the win after his six innings of work scattered eight Starkville hits while striking out six and walking two.
Williamson recorded the save, coming to the mound in the final inning and shutting out the Cougars.
