One final regular season night of basketball and then it is on to the District 1-4A Tournament.
Such is the future for the Indianola Academy basketball program and that final regular season’s action will occur tonight.
With Oak Hill Academy of West Point visiting the IA gym, the 2-15, 0-8 Lady Colonels will tip off at 6 p.m. on this non-district night of play.
The Colonels will then take the court against Oak Hill Academy with hopes of improving upon the 2-15, 1-7 record they will carry into that night’s action.
Moving on to the district tournament, which begins next Thursday, the IA squads will travel to Kirk Academy in Grenada.
Game times and opponents are to be announced for this tournament – an event which will send the top four teams emerging onto further playoff competition.
As for their most recent play, the Colonels split their two games played this past week.
After opening with last Friday’s 50-45 victory over visiting Carroll Academy, the Colonels dropped a 52-31 home court decision this past Tuesday to Kirk Academy.
In their victory over Carroll Academy, the IA squad benefited from double-digit scoring by four Colonels
Leading the scoring parade with 15 points was Keric Robinson while Levi Williamson added another 11 points to the scoreboard.
Also recording a double-double performance (10 points, 13 rebounds) was Tristan Bradshaw while Ty Killebrew contributed another 10 points to the IA final score.
Meanwhile, in the girls’ play last Friday the Lady Colonels fell by a 47-35 margin to Carroll Academy.
The loss occurred despite Julia Davis’ 13-point scoring performance and senior Maggie Jenkins’ 14 rebounds.
This past Tuesday then found the IA girls hosting Kirk Academy, which resulted in a 55-28 loss to the team from Grenada.
It was Amy Van’s 10 points which paced the IA offensive efforts in this game.
