A candidate for Indianola’s highest office has been arrested on a domestic violence charge.
Hollis Jamonne Myrick was booked into the Sunflower County jail on Tuesday morning, charged with domestic violence with injuries (first offense). According to Sunflower County Sheriff James Haywood, Myrick was released that day on a $2,000 bond.
Myrick is one of three people running for the mayor’s seat in Indianola. That primary is set for October 14.
The charges against Myrick will not affect his standing as a candidate. The charges do not constitute a felony, he has not been convicted, and he is innocent until proven guilty.
The Enterprise-Tocsin contacted Myrick, and he offered no comment to the charges.
Myrick is currently employed at the Greenwood Police Department. Greenwood Mayor Kendrick Cox confirmed to The E-T that Myrick is still employed there.
He said that the situation had been brought to the city’s attention and that the police department is currently doing its due diligence to investigate the charges against Myrick.
