Not much changed in the hours leading up to last Friday’s filing deadline for Indianola’s October 14 primary elections.
Alex Deason, a candidate for Ward 1, submitted his paperwork on Friday afternoon, and by Tuesday morning, all candidates that had turned in filing papers had been certified.
What will change is the makeup of Indianola’s board of aldermen, at least in two wards.
Incumbents Darrell Simpson, Ward 2, and Marvin Elder, Ward 4, are not seeking re-election.
The Sunflower County Democratic Executive Committee met this past Tuesday to discuss election day issues, logistics and to certify the candidates.
Voters in Wards 2 and 5 will have some changes to their polling precincts.
In Ward 2, voters who voted in the 2021 election at the now-demolished county justice court building will now vote at the Lions Club building on Sunflower Avenue.
In the event of a November 4 runoff in Ward 2, Sunflower County Circuit Clerk Carolyn Hamilton said that the city will share that building with the county, which will be conducting a general election for two of its school board seats that day.
In Ward 5, voters who cast ballots at the Gentry High School gymnasium in 2021 will vote this year at the Gentry High School library.
Below is a list of the candidates as they will appear on the ballot.
