The City of Indianola is making a push for public safety funding in 2025.
Dr. Adrian Brown of Brown & Associates, who also serves as the city’s contracted planner, told The Enterprise-Tocsin this week that the city will request $5 million from the Legislature this session, including $2.1 million toward a 1 Ladder Fire Engine and $2 million toward the possible construction of a new municipal complex.
“We felt like the City of Indianola could match that dollar for dollar,” Brown said of the complex project. “The city could possibly come up with $2 million to match that and have $4 million for that project.”
Brown said that he and the city are pursuing other appropriations for the project that could cost between $12 million and $15 million.
The city will also request $200,000 to purchase fire safety equipment; $200,000 for 75 Eagle Eye Police Cameras; $30,000 for police equipment and outfitting for the SRT Group (SWAT); $100,000 to purchase other public safety equipment; $200,000 for parks and recreation for public safety measures for youth recreation and health and wellness.
There is another $373,424.38 in requests for public works equipment related to safety, including two Ford 150s, 3 Ford F350s, one Compact Track Loader, one Mini Excavator, and one John Deere Z930 Z Track.
