Tyler Young, Kaci Bush and Khylon Pearson, all seniors from Indianola, recently served as pages for the Mississippi House of Representatives, where they assisted lawmakers and observed the legislative process during the session. Pictured are Representative Otis Anthony, Young, Pearson, Bush and Speaker of the House Jason White. The students were sponsored by Anthony, who selected them to participate in the page program. Pearson, 18, is a senior at Indianola Academy and the son of Candace Pearson and Eugene Pearson. Bush, 17, is a senior at Gentry High School and the daughter of Tania Sims-Bush and Lamelle Bush. Young, 18, is a senior at St. Joseph Catholic School and the son of Krystle Sample-Walker. All three are from Indianola. During their time at the Capitol, the students assisted representatives and gained insight into how state government operates. “I had a great time being a page. I learned a lot and it was really interesting to see how things work around here,” Pearson said. Bush said she valued the experience and the opportunity to serve. “I loved getting to serve as a page. This opportunity was amazing and I am grateful that my sponsor, Otis Anthony, chose me,” she said. “I experienced some great things and people while serving in the Mississippi House of Representatives.” Young also reflected on the experience. “I enjoyed my time as a page,” he said. “Thank you to Representative Otis Anthony II for this opportunity. I will never forget my time as a page.” The Mississippi House page program allows high school students to gain firsthand experience in state government while supporting representatives during the legislative session.
