A star, the greatest spokesperson a child could ever have, arose in the East. This Star of Bethlehem, spoke for the Christ Child God’s own Son. Its great light heralded His arrival on Earth and foreshadowed His gift of Everlasting Light to a world shrouded in darkness.
Genesis 1:1,6-7: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. ... He also made the stars ... to give light on the earth ... to separate light from darkness.”
Follow the Star 2025 is inviting the public to join in on its “Walk to the Manger.”
Are you wondering, “Why are they doing that again?” Well, we believe the Nativity story is one worth telling again and again. Students of the Bible know that all of the stories are timeless, and a lifetime of study can never plumb the depths. While the characters are the same, after all, the Bible does not change; scripture tells us that our Lord Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Since “all Scripture is God breathed,” it must be important for us all to be well acquainted with these people (2 Timothy 3:16). Definite poetic license is taken as “might have been conversations” are written into the script between some “might have been people.” A few historical characters are added in to help show that the main characters were real people just like us.
Each year, all of the scenes are new; we try to present the much-loved Christmas story from different perspectives.
This year, you will see Mary, her mother, and father struggling to understand how their family lineage fits into prophecy about the Messiah. Daniel and the angel Gabriel foreshadow an amazing scene where the Magi discover some ancient scrolls that point to the importance of a new star. In the Herodian Palace, a scene filled with forbidding takes place showing King Herod’s descent into darkness. Walk down the “path of angels”and hear them announce the Savior’s birth to the shepherds. Soak up the beauty of heaven on the night Jesus was born, and see the wonder of some Old Testament characters as they actually discuss hearing the colors of the star. Nearing your journey’s end, visit the live Nativity and then enter the sanctuary for communion (if you choose) and receive a handmade ornament for your tree. While our goal is to uplift hearts and spirits, we pray people will walk away with a desire to go deeper still in their walk with the Lord.
Follow the Star is a gift from the Inverness community, and we hope you will look as forward to receiving it as we do to giving it! May we all continue to look up “as the heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands” (Psalm 19:1). Let us all “Follow the Star” that leads to the one who is holy forever.
