Jean Lyon Sykes, 83, of Indianola, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at her home. Jean was born March 11, 1941, in Shaw, to Ethel Roy Lyon and Novella Johnson Lyon. She graduated from Shaw High School. Jean farmed with her husband Bobby Joe, for over 30 years prior to her retiring and working as a seamstress for Ideal Cleaners for many years. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jean was always encouraging them to get together so they could have a “large time.” In her free time, she enjoyed planting and tending to her flowers and looking at Facebook. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 64 years, Bobby Joe Sykes. Jean is survived by three children, Gary Sykes (Paula) of Indianola; Lisa Sykes (Karen) of Greenwood and Pam Field (Mitchell) of Cleveland; brother, Carlis Lyon (Pat) of Shaw; sister, Ethelene Skelton of Shaw; eight grandchildren, Dalton Sykes (Anna McClain), Anna Claire Mabus (Clint), Noah Watts, Madison Farr (Kaci), Sydney Farr (Tristain), Josh Field (Cody), Ryan Dees (Alex), Brett Field (Anne Barton); and eight great-grandchildren, John Grittman, Stratton, Allie Grace, Austin, Bennett, Grant, Mary Margaret and Riley Ann. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. Graveside services followed at Indianola City Cemetery with the Rev. John T. Burke officiating. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola was entrusted with arrangements.
