Thomas Edwards High School senior Samuel Jefferson Jr. officially signed a basketball scholarship with Coahoma Community College (CCC) during a ceremony held in the school gymnasium last Friday, March 21.
The event, attended by family, friends, and school officials, marked a significant milestone in Jefferson's athletic and academic career. “I’m really excited about this next phase of my education and basketball journey,” Jefferson said. “My goal is to graduate from CCC and hopefully play well enough to earn another scholarship to a four-year college.”
Jefferson, who has been a standout player for the Thomas Edwards High School basketball team, was joined at the signing by his father, Samuel Jefferson Sr., as well as several members of his family and school staff.
Among those present were Principal Errick M. Lakes, Assistant Basketball Coach Jeremy Williams, Assistant Principal Julia Johnson, and Athletic Director Coach Darmaris Mitchell. Jefferson's cousins, Akerrion Ingram and J’Arreul Hogan, also showed their support during the ceremony.
“Samuel has shown incredible dedication both on and off the court,” said Coach Davis. “We are proud of him and excited to see what the future holds.”
As the event wrapped up, Jefferson expressed gratitude to his family, coaches, and teammates for their support. “I wouldn’t be here without them,” he said. “I’m ready to work hard and make the most of this opportunity.”
The Thomas Edwards High School community looks forward to following Jefferson’s journey as he embarks on this new chapter in his life.
