Can they keep an unblemished district record intact?
The Indianola Academy Lady Colonels softball team will be answering that question in the coming week.
Those opportunities to remain undefeated in District 1-2A competition will begin next Monday for the 9-13, 4-0 Lady Colonels.
However, there is a home-field non-district doubleheader to play this Saturday at Chism Park.
This Saturday’s twin-bill against Benton Academy will offer the Lady Colonels another chance to keep their five-game win streak alive.
The first pitch of this day’s play will be thrown at 11 a.m.
The Lady Colonels have put themselves in the position to win every one of this season’s district contests following this past Tuesday’s doubleheader sweep of North Sunflower Academy in Drew.
The IA squad dealt the Lady Rebels back-to-back 16-2 and 14-3 losses.
With that success behind them, the Lady Colonels will travel next Monday to Delta Academy in Marks for a single district contest. Game time is to be announced.
The final district contest of the regular season will then be played next Tuesday when North Sunflower Academy comes to Chism Park for a 6:30 p.m. clash with the Lady Colonels.
In the Lady Colonels’ doubleheader sweep of North Sunflower Academy this past Tuesday, the opening game saw IA send 15 runs across the plate in the first inning to effectively put the game away.
In this two-inning contest, the Lady Colonels’ four-hit attack was aided by walks as the score moved to its final 16-2 margin.
Collecting one single each for the IA offensive effort were eighth grader Aubri Rybolt, junior Camryn Smith, sophomore Makensie Smith, and junior Nyla Thomas.
Makensie Smith picked up the win in the pitcher’s circle as she limited NSA to a pair of hits while striking out two batters.
In the nightcap, IA used an eight-run fourth frame to extend the 6-3 lead that was on hand at the time.
By game’s end, the Lady Colonels stroked 13 hits in this four-inning outing.
This double-digit-hit-attack was led by junior Kelly Arrington and senior Julia Davis, both of whom drilled a double and a pair of singles.
Also adding a double to her single earned against the NSA pitching was Thomas.
Rybolt was the winning pitcher as she scattered three NSA hits while recording a pair of strikeouts.
