Honoring sports legends who donned the Mississippi Delta Community College Red and Black will be the focus at an event on Saturday at J.T. Hall Coliseum. Doors open at 4:00 p.m. for social hour, dinner begins at 5:00 p.m. and the ceremony at 5:45 p.m.
This year’s honorees include Wanda Evans Dixon for her basketball and softball career from 1989-1991, James “Dickie” Bennett’s track prowess from 1960-1962, Carlos Bonner’s gridiron feats from 1989-1991, Ceasar Jones’ football career from 1987-1989 and Sidney Carmichael’s defensive prowess on the football field from 1990-1992.
The special Coach Jimmy Bellipanni Award will be posthumously presented to Henry Manuel who played football at MDCC from 1981-1983. Manuel’s name will further be cemented on campus as the Police Training Facility will bear his name as well.
