The Indianola Lions Club welcomed Joe Forrester of Wreaths Across America as its guest speaker during its recent meeting, sponsored by member Bill Alford. Forrester, who began the local chapter of Wreaths Across America with his wife Barbara seven years ago, shared the group’s growth from placing about 200 wreaths on veterans’ graves in its first year to nearly 800 wreaths today.
The Forresters also organize the placement of Veterans stars on graves as part of their effort to honor service members. This year’s National Wreaths Across America Day takes place Saturday, Dec. 13, with more than two million volunteers placing wreaths and participating in remembrance ceremonies at over 5,200 locations across all 50 states, at sea and abroad.
The community is invited to join in the mission to “Remember, Honor and Teach” by supporting the local Wreaths Across America event and paying tribute to veterans laid to rest in Indianola and Sunflower County.
