Chezzrae Fowler Parker has found a career that suits her well.
The Sunflower native and Wade College graduate has opened a new clothing design and alterations business in Indianola.
Chezzrae’s opened two weeks ago at 615 Highway 82 West next door to the Dollar General store, and she is offering a variety of clothing services, including alterations, mending, button replacements, zipper replacements and repairs, hemming, design, wedding gown construction, suit tailoring for men and women and more.
“You name it, we do every kind of clothing alterations, whether jeans, slacks, tops, skirts, dresses, etc.,” Parker said.
The daughter of Taleja Wright and Christopher Parker and the granddaughter of Betty Fowler and Betty Parker, the young entrepreneur was raised in Sunflower and also spent time in Moorhead as a child.
She left Sunflower County during her middle school years and moved to Georgia and eventually to the Dallas, Texas area.
Her interest in garments began during those junior high years.
“I think it was inherited,” she told The Enterprise-Tocsin in an interview this week.
Two of her grandmothers were seamstresses, sewing curtains, pillows and other things.
For Chezzrae, though, she had an interest in clothing.
“I started to take it serious about four years ago,” she said. “Here I am now.”
Chezzrae said that she has worked for a number of people during and after college, but she has always had a dream of owning her own business, and she wanted to do that in her home county.
“I actually stepped out on faith with that one,” she said about opening her business. “I wanted to open my business in Dallas after I completed college, but I was thinking about going back home with this one.”
Chezzrae said that she hopes to expand her business in the future and open multiple stores.
“I’m building a brand,” she said.
She is open most days by 9 a.m. and is in the studio until she is done for the day.
