A Sunflower man was arrested on multiple charges, ranging from shooting into a dwelling to statutory rape.
According to records from the Sunflower County Sheriff’s Department, Malachi Washington, 20, of Sunflower, was booked into the Sunflower County jail last Thursday on charges of touching a child for lustful purposes (gratification molesting), shooting into a dwelling and statutory rape of a teenage victim.
Sunflower Police Chief Bobby Walker told The Enterprise-Tocsin that his department was investigating Washington as a suspect in the shooting incident when a young girl and her mother came forward with the molestation accusations.
Prior to that, Walker said a mother and son had allegedly been receiving threats from Washington that he would shoot them.
“Later on that night, 11 to 15 shots rang out through the house,” Walker said.
Walker said he contacted Washington and asked him to come in for questioning, but he never arrived.
He was picked up on a warrant last week, Walker said.
Walker said the alleged molestation was said to have gone on for multiple years, starting when the victim was 9 or 10 years old. The same person said the rape incident allegedly happened more recent.
Walker said his department handled the shooting and molestation investigation, but he turned the statutory rape case over to the county since it was alleged the incident happened outside of his jurisdiction.
