The Indianola Academy Lady Colonels have now won their first game of the basketball season.
And they did so in dramatic fashion last Friday night on their homecourt.
Down by one point with five seconds remaining to play against Greenville St. Joseph High, it would be Hannah Lloyd who would launch a successful three-point shot to give the Lady Colonels a 45-43 victory.
Now 1-10 following this past Monday night’s 31-26 loss at Deer Creek School in Arcola, the Lady Colonels and the 5-6 Colonels will play their final game of the calendar year Friday night at Manchester Academy.
Tipoff for the girls’ game in Yazoo City is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the boys’ contest to follow immediately thereafter.
Meanwhile, the Colonels also split their two games played this past week.
Rebounding from last Friday’s 62-30 loss to St. Joseph High, this past Monday the Colonels claimed a 41-40 road decision over Deer Creek School.
In last Friday’s signature win, the Lady Colonels received a broad team effort which included three players from the junior class reaching double-digit scoring status.
While Lloyd’s game-winning three-pointer enabled her to join Carly Moore in scoring 11 points apiece, Leighton Lovelace led all the IA scoring by posting a dozen points on the scoreboard.
Also reaching double digits in the rebounding category was Maggie Jenkins. The freshman would secure 11 errant shots for the Lady Colonels’ efforts.
In Monday night’s loss to Deer Creek School, Lovelace led the IA scoring with a 10 point game while also accumulating eight steals.
That same night at Deer Creek School, the Colonels escaped with their one-point win over the Warriors on the strength of E.J. Hall’s double double performance.
The sophomore led the scoring for IA by scoring 12 points while also bringing down 13 rebounds.
As for their loss to Greenville St. Joe last Friday, the Colonels scoring was paced by senior Cole Ferrell’s 11 point night of play.
Hall also tallied a dozen rebounds in this contest against the Fighting Irish.
