Just when NSA’s basketball teams thought most of the off-the-floor obstacles had been cleared, this past Tuesday’s matchup with Lee Academy (Ark.) was canceled.
Lee had a flu outbreak that took down several players. The game was moved to January 24. Now the Rebels and Lady Rebels hope to hit the hardwood on Friday to take on Clinton’s Mt. Salus Christian School at home.
Lady Rebel Head Coach Anthony Rivera has been using the extra playing time getting his team in top shape. His Fab Five JV team has been working out to hopefully increase endurance.
“They are putting in more work and leadership is coming around,” Coach Rivera said. “We are in the weight room while the JV boys are in the gym then they go practice with the varsity. They are getting that conditioning in because they know there’s no subs.”
Coach Rivera had been working on some new wrinkles for his squad but now he’s hoping those plays and plans will get the job done against Mt. Salus.
“I’m feeling confident and have been all week,” he said. “I installed a new press with both of my girls’ team but Friday is as perfect time as any to use them.”
The Mt. Salus game will be the last game in December and will be a varsity only contest with boys and girls teams.
