With postseason play rapidly approaching, the Gentry High School basketball teams are very close to completing their regular season schedule.
While en route to the final portion of their schedule, this past week saw both Gentry squads claim a pair of regional wins. Their continued success on the court improved the Lady Rams’ record to 19-6, 5-1 while the Rams own a 19-7, 4-2 record.
However, this next week also holds a pair of important Region 3-4A home-court games beginning with this Friday’s clash with Clarksdale High School.
That important week of basketball continues next Tuesday when Senatobia High School comes to the Gentry High campus.
In addition to celebrating Senior Night, this evening of play holds extra incentive for the Rams who will be attempting to avenge their January 18 loss to the Warriors.
Both nights of action will see the girls’ game tip off at 6 p.m. while the boys’ game will commence immediately thereafter.
In their most recent play this past Tuesday, while the Lady Rams defeated Yazoo City High by a 57-27 margin, the Rams avenged their earlier loss to the Indians.
Claiming a 68-46 victory over Yazoo City, the Rams were led by LaDerrius Love’s 19 point night of play.
Additional strong play was had by Marcus Stubbs (15 points) and Chris Minton (12 points).
Helping to make all the scoring happen was DeAndre Briscoe, who dished out a superb 14 assists throughout the course of the game.
In other action last Friday, both Gentry squads claimed a regional road victory over Greenwood High School.
While the Lady Rams secured a 46-34 victory that night, the Rams claimed a 60-55 decision over the Bulldogs.
Leading the scoring for the Rams in their contest was Love with 18 points.
Meanwhile, Minton was close behind with his 16 point outing while Troy Griffin added another 10 points to the scoreboard.
Also reaching double digits in the rebounding category was Tra’dareon Millbrook with 12 grabs of missed shots.
