Basketball season has now begun at Indianola Academy.
And with only one returning starter, the 2024-25 version of the Colonels basketball team will see several new faces on the court this season.
Those faces got their first taste of action Tuesday night when the IA squad took a trip to Central Holmes Christian School in Lexington.
Despite playing with a roster completely comprised of players who only four days prior were playing football, the Colonels narrowly dropped a 33-28 decision to the Trojans on the basketball court.
Another opportunity to hone their basketball skills occurred Thursday night when the Colonels traveled to Deer Creek School in Arcola.
Results of that night’s play were unavailable at press time.
The Colonels’ 21-game schedule then calls for them to take another road trip next Tuesday, on this occasion to Carroll Academy.
A home game will then be enjoyed next Thursday when Washington School of Greenville comes to the IA gym.
Both of next week’s games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
As for the players making up this 2024-25 version of the Colonels, it is senior guard Evan Burke who is the sole returning starter.
However, among IA Head Coach Allen Hill’s nine-man squad are five players expected to make an impact on the court this season.
At the guard position will be Keric Robinson and Levi Williamson while the forward position features Tristan Bradshaw, Ty Killebrew and Isaiah Morgan.
While Coach Hill feels the play at the guard position could be a strength of the team, depth of the team is his primary concern.
In District 1-4A competition this season, Coach Hill expects Marshall Academy of Holly Springs to be the team to beat.
