A Spring Break Tournament is now next up on the agenda for the Indianola Academy Colonels baseball team.
While that event is scheduled to begin Tuesday on the IA field, the Colonels took a 4-6 record into Thursday evening’s District 1-4A double header against Kirk Academy.
The results of that evening’s play in Grenada were unavailable at press time. Meanwhile, this past Monday’s initial game of this three-game series with the Raiders was washed out by the rain.
The makeup date for that game is to be announced.
However, the Colonels did pick up a victory this past Saturday in Greenwood by way of an 8-4 extra-inning decision over the Pillow Academy Mustangs.
With the score knotted at two runs apiece after seven innings of play, the Colonels plated six runs in the top of the eighth to take a comfortable lead.
The clutch runs were recorded following a bases-loaded single by Liam Ledbetter as well as a two-RBI single off the bat of Walker Perkins.
As for next week’s Spring Break competition, there are six teams participating in this two-day tournament.
Among the teams competing along with IA are Clarksdale High School, Greenville Christian School, Greenville High School, Riverside High School of Avon, and Tunica Academy.
It will be an IA versus Clarksdale High match-up which will open tournament play and the first pitch of that game is scheduled to be thrown at noon Tuesday.
The Colonels will then return to their home field at 3:30 p.m. for a game against Tunica Academy.
Next Wednesday will see the tournament move to Riverside High School where games will begin at 11 a.m.
Opponents and start times for each game will be determined by the seeding resulting from Tuesday’s competition.
The championship game for this tournament is set to begin at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.
In last Saturday’s win over Pillow Academy, the Colonels’ seven-hit attack was led by Tyler Jackson’s pair of doubles.
Also drilling a double and a single was Ledbetter while a Ty Killebrew gapper resulted in a double.
On the mound, Weston Farmer picked up the win in relief. His four-inning appearance allowed but two hits while striking out four and walking three batters.
Jackson also turned in a solid four-inning performance in his starting role on the mound. The senior scattered three hits while fanning one and walking three.
