It has been a tough week of baseball for the Gentry High Rams.
This past week’s action saw the 3-7, 0-4 Rams drop three games — a cluster of contests which included a Region 3-4A doubleheader (12-0, 16-1) road loss to Senatobia on Tuesday.
Despite those losses, according to Gentry Head Coach Eddie Ivory, “The second half of the season should be better than the first half. We are young and inexperienced, but my ball club has a lot of want to. Plus, we have been more aggressive at the plate.”
The losses to Senatobia were also preceded by a 29-21 loss last Friday to visiting Northside High of Shelby.
Hoping a new game on a new day will help the Rams find their way back into the win column, today the Gentry squad once again plays on their home field.
With game time scheduled for 4 p.m., the expected non-regional competition will be the Leland High Cubs or the Greenville O’Bannon High Green Wave.
The Rams will then remain outside of regional action next Monday when a trip to Thomas Edwards High in Ruleville is scheduled. First pitch of this contest against the cross-county foe is set to be thrown at 4 p.m.
Another 4 p.m. road trip is scheduled for next Tuesday as the Rams return to regional competition.
On this occasion, the Rams will take on the Bulldogs of Greenwood High School.
In their most recent play at Senatobia High School, the second game saw the Rams being led by a trio of hitters stroking a pair of singles apiece.
This group included Troy Griffin, Elijah Powers, and Martevious Williams.
Meanwhile, in the Rams’ high-scoring loss to Northside High, Williams matched his three singles with three RBI’s while Griffin’s four runs batted in came by way of a pair of clutch singles.
Although Jordan Davis also contributed two singles, it was Powers leading all hitters by drilling four singles against the Gators’ pitching staff.
