“From the beginning to the end, we fought. Being an underdog, there was no disappointment in the Lady Rams’ effort this season. From going into the district tournament ranked as the #3 to becoming the 2023 district champions, we didn’t quit. The lessons my girls have learned along the journey, I pray they’ll never forget. It’s been an incredible journey,” said Lady Rams Head Coach Sarita Cooper-White.
In the second round of the state playoffs, the Gentry High School Lady Rams fell to the Pontotoc Lady Warriors 44-34. Starting off, Taniyah Williams led her team from tipoff. With not much action in the first period of the game, X’Zaylah Yarbor, No. 5, changed the game with a few layups that sparked movement on the scoreboard. Continuing from the corner, Breniyah Myrick, No. 4, did her magic leaping off the ground and scoring three. However, in the second half, the Lady Warriors began to pick up the pace by turning over the ball in their favor and scoring in the paint consistently. Although the Lady Rams displayed strategic defense, the Lady Warriors were able to take the lead in the third period which carried them to winning the second round of the playoffs. The Lady Rams ended the season 13-11. Pictured directly above, No. 2 Taniyah Williams takes control of the ball during the Lady Rams’ final game.
