Thanksgiving is over and Gentry High School basketball will be back in full swing Saturday.
The Rams and Lady Rams will be hosting the Kirk E. Price Memorial Thanksgiving Classic tomorrow, an event which brings three other schools to the Gentry High campus.
The Rams enter the one-day tournament following last Thursday’s 57-29 road victory over 6A member South Panola High School of Batesville.
Meanwhile, that same night the Lady Rams suffered their first defeat of the young season as they fell by a 67-35 score to the South Panola squad.
While Saturday will see the 4-1 Lady Rams and the 3-2 Rams take on Forest Hill High from Jackson, the other matchups will see squads from Thomas Edwards High in Ruleville do battle with Jefferson County High from Fayette.
While the day’s activities begin at 1 p.m. Saturday with the Edwards High and Jefferson County High girls taking the court, the two schools’ boys’ teams will match up at 2:30 p.m.
The Lady Rams will then take the court at 4 p.m. against Forest Hill High while the day’s action will conclude when the Rams tipoff at 5:30 p.m.
Additional basketball action continues next Tuesday when the Gentry High squads will host Riverside High of Avon.
The girls’ action begins at 6 p.m. with the boys’ game to follow immediately thereafter.
In their latest win over South Panola High, the Rams used tenacious defense and the double-digit scoring of three players to fuel their 28-point victory.
While ZaCarius Johnson led all scorers with 15 points, DeMarion Gibson and Makheal Blackmon added 12 and 11 points respectively to the Rams’ offensive efforts.
