Following an extended break from basketball action due to the weather, a pair of recent road trips garnered mixed results for the Gentry High School squads.
The Lady Rams and Rams returned to action this past Tuesday and Wednesday nights by traveling to Canton and Greenville respectively.
In Wednesday night’s excursion to Greenville High School, the Lady Rams picked up a 44-25 Region 2-5A victory while the Rams claimed a 55-49 decision over the Hornets.
However, a Tuesday night trip to Canton High School for another round of regional competition did not result in favorable results for the Gentry squads.
While the now 15-8, 2-4 Lady Rams suffered a 49-33 loss, the 10-13, 2-4 Rams fell by a 63-21 score to the Tigers.
A busy week of basketball action continues tonight in their home gym for the Gentry High teams when they will take the court against Yazoo City High School.
Tonight’s games will see the girls tipping off at 6 p.m. and the boys’ game to follow immediately thereafter.
Additional Region 2-5A basketball play continues next Tuesday with a trip to Lexington to take on Holmes County High School.
Again, that night’s action will begin with the girls’ game tipping off at 6 p.m.
While the regular season finale occurs on January 30 with Greenville High School, there is another regional game which must be made up.
The date for this make-up game with Cleveland Central High is to be announced.
Once the regular season schedule is complete, Gentry High School will be hosting the Region 2-5A Tournament.
A February 5 start date is slated for this post-season event.
During this past Wednesday’s victory over Greenville High, the Lady Rams were paced by Breniyah Myrick’s double-double performance. This night of play saw Myrick match her dozen points scored with a like number of rebounds.
Although X’zaylah Yarbor just missed double digit scoring with her nine points, Zion Brown reached double figures in the rebound category by bringing down 10 errant shots.
In boys’ action against Greenville High, Makheal Blackmon’s 19 points led the Gentry High offense.
ZaCarius Johnson also contributed a strong 15-point outing to the Rams’ winning cause.
In the Lady Rams’ recent loss to Canton High, it was Za’Kensly Yarbor’s 11-point night of play that paced the scoring for the Gentry High squad.
Meanwhile, the Rams found scoring difficult against the Canton High defense and Johnson’s 8-point outing led the Gentry High offense.
