A new basketball season is set to begin next Tuesday for the Gentry High Lady Rams.
And for Head Coach Sarita Cooper-White, who is entering her sixth year at the helm of the Gentry High program, the key to success for this 2023-24 team “Will be a strictly team effort. The whole team will have to contribute for us to be successful this season.”
The Lady Rams will open their 2023-24 season next Tuesday when Humphreys County of Belzoni visits the Gentry High gymnasium.
Next Thursday will then see the Lady Rams play the second of three consecutive home dates when Clarksdale High visits.
Both night’s play is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
As for the players who make it happen on the court of play, a good starting point for success could begin with the three returning starters, who are also the only three seniors on the Gentry High roster.
This trio of returning starters consists of Breniyah Myrick, X’Zaylah Yarbor and Zakensly Yarbor.
However, Coach Cooper-White notes “I have quite a few that are expected to make an impact this season. Along with the returning seniors, I have a great set of experienced juniors. The sophomores and freshmen have several that will shock the basketball world. Lastly, I have a true eighth grader who is expected to contribute to this year’s success.”
One area of concern for Coach Cooper-White is “Being consistent and staying locked in as a team.”
Assisting Coach Cooper-White in guiding the Lady Rams through their 25-game schedule this season will be Derrick Farrow and Shunteque Lofton.
